Those trying to etch their names and that of their beloved on the walls of historical monuments for posterity, better watch out. In a bid to protect these monuments from being defaced with graffiti, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has come up with plans to install closed circuit TV (CCTV) cameras at all sites with historical monuments. The project will cover the Hampi ruins and Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur, which has a number of historical hotspots...

Ahmedabad owes its existence (and name) to Ahmed I, the first independent Muslim ruler of Gujarat, who founded the city in 1411 on the banks of the Sabarmati river. It initially grew within a wall pierced by 12 gates, or darwazas, before expanding outwards. A Thursday morning finds me about to embark on a heritage walk to help me get better acquainted with the original walled city and its history.

Conceptualised in 1998, the much awaited Khalsa Heritage Memorial Complex ‘Virasat-e-Khalsa’ at Anandpur Sahib in Punjab would be inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal tomorrow. The museum is conceived as a repository of the rich heritage of the Khalsa, history and culture of Punjab — so as to inspire visitors with the vision of the gurus, emphasising the eternal message of the great gurus for the whole mankind. The first phase of the complex has taken 13 years and over Rs 300 crore to complete.
Face lift to eight heritage tourism spots under ICZMP
The Orissa government has decided to promote heritage tourism at eight locations along the coast line with an investment of Rs 7.41 crore in the next five years.
