A
photo exhibition to mark World Photography Day 2012 was organised at Ashirvad
Bhavan in the Raj Bhavan complex at Gangtok on 4th September. The
exhibition included photographs depicting Sikkim’s landscape, people, flora and
fauna. It further showcased the contributions of Sikkim’s pioneering
photographers Rhenock Yarpa Tse Ten Tashi and his son Yarpa Paljor Dorji Tashi,
popularly known as “Yap Penjola”. A Power-Point presentation was also made by
Mr. Kiran Rasaily, President, Vivid Kala Akademi of Sikkim, which covered about
sixty selected photographs of local photographers along with works of renowned
photographers from Delhi, Kolkata, Goa and Darjeeling.
The
organizers of the exhibition included Vivid Kala Akademi, Sikkim and Journalist
Union of Sikkim (JUS). Tenzin C. Tashi, the granddaughter of Yarpa Tse Ten
Tashi and daughter of Yarpa Penjola organised the retrospective of photographs
by the late father-son duo.
The
ceremony was addressed by H.E. the Governor of Sikkim and by Mr. Sonam Gyamtso
Tashi, Vice- Chancellor, ICFAI University, Sikkim, son Yarpa Tse Ten Tashi. The
guests included the Deputy GOC, 17 Mountain Division and his staff along with
family members of Yarpa Tse Ten Tashi and his son Yarpa Paljor Dorji Tashi.
Also present were Prof. Anil K. Gupta, from IIM, Ahmedabad with 28 students.
