Bikaner, India - Foreign and domestic tourists thronged a camel festival in the desert town of Bikaner in India's northwestern Rajasthan state.

The annual three-day long carnival of camels commenced on Sunday (January 08) at the Karni Stadium, and it was organized in a bid to promote ethnic traditions.

The special attraction of camel dance won hearts of the visitors at the event.

One foreign tourist expressed delight on having witnessed and experienced the colorful cultural heritage of Rajasthan at the ongoing 'Camel Festival'.

The colorful spectacle also included a procession of bedecked camels.

A prominent feature of the festival has been the traditional dances of Rajasthan presented by local artists to the tunes of folk music.

Tourists seemed to be upbeat about the traditional reception and were amazed by the exotic ethnic ornaments and costumes adorned by local women.

The other highlights of the festival are a 'Camel Beauty Contest' in which colorfully caparisoned Ships of the Desert took part to display their graceful gaits and traits.

Various designs were painted on the bodies of the camels making them quite attractive.
