Pakistan:Workshop on miniature paintings

In an effort towards exploring and enhancing the glorious innovative expressions and concepts of the miniature revolution in Pakistan in contemporary times, the Pakistan National Council of the Arts and Ministry of National Heritage & Integration has scheduled a 10-day workshop on ‘Traditional Miniature Paintings’ from January 16 to January 27.

Highlighting the rich heritage and traditions followed through centuries in the sub-continental region and the evolution of contemporary miniature works in Pakistan, the workshop conducted by Farrah Mahmood Adnan aims to educate the younger genre of upcoming artists about the technique, skill and nuances of this medium.

Being an expert in the field of miniature, Farrah Mahmood Adnan will conduct the workshop for students, amateur artists and youngsters at the National Art Gallery with basic techniques and theoretical training of the unique art of miniature painting and mediums like form of colour, form of line, pencil, still life and landscapes.

According to Musarrat Nahid Imam, director (visual arts) at the PNCA, the workshop has been scheduled with the objective of engaging the youngsters in healthy creative exercise and promoting art and craft related techniques among the young generation by master artisans.

The course of the workshop was planned for art lovers, students and amateur artists to boost their extra skills besides their regular studies, said Farrah Mahmood. She added that people of subcontinent have always been very fond of various art forms, pictorial art ranking as one of Indo-Pakistan’s foremost arts. From magnificent mural paintings splashed across temples and historical abodes to the intricate Mughal miniatures carrying their rich historical anecdote of glorious era, these wonderful works of art sheds light on the socio-religious lifestyle of this region.

The workshop also aims to provide guidance in the miniature medium as the contemporary art of miniature is extremely influenced by artists’ surroundings, culture and society while they also practice the same ancient traditional technique of Miniature painting, adds Farrah Mahmood while trying to sketch the methodology she aims to incorporate in the workshop to make it a memorable experience for the participants.
