Inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage List

The Minister for Culture and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja has said that Establishing Outstanding Universal Values (OUV) based on one or more than one criteria, as enumerated in the UNESCO’s Operational Guidelines 2011, is the basis of inclusion of any historical site/monument on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. List of criteria is placed at Annexure-I. Details and status of proposals submitted in last four years are as given in Annexure-II.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Kumari Selja said, Ministry of Culture has set up an Advisory Committee on World Heritage Matters (ACWHM) with a mandate to consider and recommend heritage sites for nomination for inscription on World Heritage List, taking into account both the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of the site and quality of nomination dossier.
